This guide describes the use of reference photographs depicting the appearance of both previously unpainted and previously painted and partially rusted hot-rolled carbon steel prior to and after abrasive blast cleaning. Over 50 full color reference photos depict cleanliness requirements for SP 5/NACE 1 (White Metal Blast Cleaning), SP 6/NACE 3 (Commercial Blast Cleaning), SP-7/NACE 4 (Brush-Off Blast Cleaning), SP 10/ANCE 2 (Near-White Blast Cleaning), and SP 14/NACE 8 (Industrial Blast Cleaning); and are used to supplement the written SSPC/NACE blast cleaning surface preparation standards. Includes both English and Spanish languages.
Surfaces Prepared by Dry Abrasive Blast Cleaning
This guide provides a method to evaluate the degree of rusting on painted steel (or iron) surfaces. The 27 reference color photographs and corresponding black and white images depict the maximum percentage of rusting allowed for each rust grade 1 through 9. This standard quantifies the degree of rusting on painted steel surfaces with a zero to ten scale based on the percentage of visible rust present on the surface.
Evaluation of the Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces
The full-color reference photos represent various conditions of painted, unpainted, rusted, and welded hot-rolled carbon steel surfaces prior to and after power- and hand-tool cleaning. This guide is used to supplement reference standards SP 2 (Hand Tool Cleaning), SP 3 (Power Tool Cleaning), SP 11 (Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal), and SP 15 (Commercial Grade Power Tool Cleaning). Includes English, Spanish, and Portuguese languages.
Evaluation of the Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces
This guide describes the use of reference photographs depicting the appearance of unpainted rusted carbon steel and painted carbon steel, with or without rust, prior to and after cleaning by waterjetting.
These reference photos are intended to supplement the four written standards SSPC-SP WJ-1/NACE WJ-1 – Waterjet Cleaning of Metals – Clean to Bare Substrate, SSPC-SP WJ-2/NACE WJ-2 – Waterjet Cleaning of Metals – Very Thorough Cleaning, SSPC-SP WJ-3/NACE WJ- – Waterjet Cleaning of Metals – Thorough Cleaning, and SSPC-SP WJ-4/NACE WJ-4 – Waterjet Cleaning of Metals –Light Cleaning.
Evaluation of the Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces
This guide describes the use of reference photographs depicting the appearance of unpainted, rusted carbon steel prior to and after cleaning by wet abrasive blast cleaning (WAB or Slurry blasting). The wet abrasive blast cleaning techniques and equipment are described in SSPC-TR 2/NACE 6G198.
The reference photographs are intended to supplement the written standards SSPC-SP10/NACE No. 2, SSPC-SP-6/NACE No. 3, and ISO 8501-1 (E). This guide can be used to clarify the acceptable level of flash rusting allowed prior to the application of protective coatings.
