The PosiTector 6000 FNDS probe from DeFelsko …
Measures the individual thicknesses of both the paint and the zinc in a duplex coating system with a single probe reading.
A duplex coating system can be formed by painting or powder coating over galvanized steel.
Used for decades as a means to enhance corrosion protection, and appearance, the synergy between the two coatings provides protection superior to either system used independently.
The PosiTector 6000 FNDS duplex probe was specifically designed to measure this coating system with one probe placement, simply and accurately.
It can be operated like a conventional combination ferrous / non-ferrous gage to measure the thickness of coatings on either steel substrates… or on non-steel metal substrates such as aluminum.
Measuring coated galvanizing requires that both operations happen in a single reading. This is performed by selecting the DUPLEX menu option.
Alternatively the up navigation button quickly toggles Duplex mode on or off
With DUPLEX mode OFF, the probe measures the total thickness of the coating system.
With DUPLEX mode ON, the probe measures the two individual layer thicknesses.
The gage will work with the three most common zinc application methods
Provided the zinc layer measures at least half a mil, or 13 microns.
For best results, particularly on rough zinc surfaces, zero the probe on the surface of the zinc… by taking several readings on the representative galvanized structure. This value is stored and used for all future readings.
With the PosiTector, an operator can also view statistical summaries of measurements over many surfaces and download results into free reporting software.
The PosiTector 6000 FNDS probe is just one of the many interchangeable probes that fit onto a single PosiTector gage body.
